New Huge Tree Planting programme gets the Green light!
What a finale to probably the biggest neighbourhood tree planting programmes ever undertaken in the City over recent years!
Manchester has received confirmation that its bid to the Forestry Commission's Urban Tree Challenge Fund has been successful, with a substantial six figure sum going towards the purchase, planting, and maintenance of 828 new trees in communities across the City over the next two years (2025, 2026). These will be really big beauties (or extra heavy standards in technical tree speak).
This compliments the already extensive planting through the tree action MCR programme, and has effectively turned £1million investment into nearly £1.5 Million in total on tree planting across the City from 2020.
This has led to an unprecedented increase in the number of Council managed highways trees, the 4200 new trees increasing numbers by over 16%.
A bold move, and one that supports the ambition set out in the Growing Manchester's Trees Study
